WHAT IS THE PROCESS?

· Initial consultation
· Creating the draft plan
· The finished plan
· Plant service
· Project supervision

INITIAL CONSULTATION
Fiona offers several landscape services- as little or as much as needed. They all begin with an on-site consultation. This initial visit usually lasts 1.5. hours. Whilst assessing the site, she discusses with you how you want to use the garden and what you want it to look like. The process may end at this stage if all you require are some general layout and design ideas to get you started.

To get the most from the meeting, you could: · Discuss your ideas beforehand with all the members of the household, to gain everyone’s input.
· Draw up wish-lists to include practical things like barbecues, your favourite colours, scents, and more abstract notions such how (or where) you would like to feel you are in your new garden.
· Dig out any pictures from holidays, magazines and books that appeal to you.
· Note if there any areas that are constantly damp. Observe where it is sunny and where is shaded in your garden in both summer and winter.

CREATING THE DRAFT PLAN
If, at the end of the session, you would like to go on to have a full plan designed (to draft or finished stage), Fiona will prepare a quote based on the initial meeting and any further stated requirements you may have.

Once you sign and return the quote acceptance (the contract), Fiona will commence the design proper.

From there, a design meeting will be held, to discuss, with the aid of reference books and images, further ideas, styles and features that appeal to you. Fiona will also take photos, measurements and soil samples. It helps if you are able to provide an accurate survey/ site plan.

At the next meeting, Fiona returns to present the draft layout plan to scale (in pencil) for your approval. This shows the proposed location of decks, pergolas, steps, water features, paths and the like, as well as trees, hedges, garden beds and lawns. (You may choose to finish at this stage if all you require is an accurate layout plan.)

Any amendments you may require are made at this draft stage, before the final plan is drawn up. *

THE FINISHED PLAN
The final plan (to DA standard) is a fully annotated plan view (bird’s eye view) architectural drawing with additional construction detail, cross-sections, and sketch drawings where necessary. A specification document indicates hardscape materials; construction techniques along with a planting schedule- detailing plant species, quantity and purchase size.

Once you have the plan, you can obtain comparative quotes from landscape companies or just start the work yourself.

PLANT SERVICE
Fiona’s distinctive, unique gardens often contain less commonplace plants. Fiona can source and supply the plants for her clients, as well as lay the plants out in their proposed locations before you or your landscaper plant them.

PROJECT SUPERVISION
If you are using a landscape contractor to build your garden, Fiona is able to attend the site at pre-arranged stages of the construction to ensure that the design is being carried out according to the plan.

*Usually minor amendments are not charged for. However, if major changes are required due to a radical change of mind on your part, or due to unforseen circumstances, Fiona will let you know the cost in advance, based on the hourly rate.
