WHY USE A COLOUR CONSULTANT?

Coming up with ideas to revamp your home can be surprisingly difficult. All of us (even designers) fall into the trap of growing so familiar with our surroundings that we no longer really see them objectively. Likewise, trying to imagine how a new (possibly yet to be built) home will look & feel, and how your new or existing furnishings will fit in, can be somewhat mind-bending.

By casting a fresh eye around your home designwise, I can pick up on both potential and problems that can be addressed by the discerning use of colour. Along with designing colour schemes, as a trained interior designer, I can also offer additional design and decorating ideas that can breathe new life into your décor.

HOW DOES IT WORK?

Very simply.
I can assist you with interior and exterior colour schemes for both new and existing dwellings. Where possible, the consultation is carried out on site, normally during daylight hours, as colours can appear very different in different lighting conditions. (You may well have already discovered that paint chips that seem okay in the paint shop look so wrong once you actually get the sample pot on the wall at home.)

I bring a huge range of colours with me to enable us to select the exact colour to suit the job. We discuss the ambience you are aiming to create in each room as well as co-ordinating all new colours with furnishings you wish to retain. Lastly, I ensure that there is a pleasing flow of colour through the house.

I leave you with a chip of each colour chosen, along with a written specification that details where each colour is to be painted, and with what type of paint. This will instruct your painter, or can be followed by you if you are DIY- inclined.

THINGS TO DO BEFORE THE APPOINTMENT

Think about colours that you enjoy, those that make you feel good. These colours could form the foundation of your new décor or just appear as accents.

How you would like to feel when you walk into your dining, lounge, bedroom? Relaxed, sunny, stimulated, calm, sophisticated……? If you’re unsure what you’d like, try looking through magazines and catalogues for decorating looks that attract you.

Decide what furniture, floor coverings etc you intend to retain in your new-look rooms.

If you are building a new home, try to obtain samples of those materials that have already been selected. This will help ensure that your new paint colours co-ordinate perfectly.

Finally, to assist the consultation to run smoothly, discuss your ideas beforehand with all the members of the household, to gain everyone’s input.
